The Minnesota Post had a nice piece on the Senior Expo taking place at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds. The expo is “a two-day mega-event offering dozens of workshops, seminars and exhibits designed to acquaint people with a wide range of resources.” The article was a pitch to the generation of children who are about to step into the role of caregiver. Smart pitch to get people out there. Not only is this is by far the most exhaustive list of exhibitors I’ve ever seen at a Senior Expo event, but the agenda of seminars is never ending.

I know that the Senior expos that I’ve attended seem to be for Seniors and not for their children/caretakers. They are usually geared toward the aging and eventual death of the client walking through that door. The halls are filled with assisted living facilities, nursing homes, funeral homes, and cemetaries. There are the occasional insurance, reverse mortgage and financial planning booths, but these seem to be fewer that the former. The Minnesota event looks to be a little different in that it is more for planning to age well. I was extremely glad to see a seminar on Minnesota’s Long-term Care Partnership.

I’m extrememly impressed with this event on paper. Hopefully it will be sucessful and have good turnout. It would also be great if they were able to capture informaiton on the attendees. I’d be curious to see how many were Seniors and how many were caregivers.
